A useful weekend guide starts with the date, the town and what is actually open. The Southern Highlands includes Bowral, Mittagong and Moss Vale as well as villages such as Berrima, Bundanoon, Robertson and Exeter. Decide which part of the region you want to spend time in before making a list of stops.

## Events, food and accommodation

[Destination Southern Highlands](<https://www.visitsouthernhighlands.com.au/>) maintains a regional visitor directory with events, places to stay and food and drink information. Use it to find an organiser or business, then check that source for the date you have in mind. An event listing and a restaurant's current booking page answer different questions.

For an event, confirm its address, start and finish times, booking requirements and cancellation arrangements. For a meal, confirm service times and any accessibility or dietary requirements directly. For accommodation, check the actual location and your transport plans before booking. Those details matter more than a long list of places labelled essential.

## A quieter local-history visit

[Wingecarribee Public Libraries' local-history pages](<https://library.wsc.nsw.gov.au/explore/local-history/>) explain the collections available for regional research. The [newspaper microfilm list](<https://library.wsc.nsw.gov.au/explore/local-history/newspapers-on-microfilm/>) is a useful starting point if an old address, family name or business is what brought you to the Highlands.
