Terms of use

These terms are between you and Mafia Publishing (ABN 37 709 073 991). It owns and publishes Highlands Post and operates the Mafia account console. These terms apply when you use Highlands Post, create an account, accept a promotional placement, submit a community event or pay to place a listing. If you place a listing for a business or event, you confirm that you have authority to act for that business or event organiser.

Reading the masthead

Paid and promotional listings and advertisements are supplied by the businesses they describe. We review new commercial listings before publication, but do not independently verify every claim and do not guarantee an advertiser's products, services, availability or conduct. Check important details with the business before relying on them.

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience. Those sites have their own content, terms and privacy practices.

Your account and submissions

You are responsible for access to your email account and for activity under a valid sign-in session. Tell us promptly at frankie@highlandspost.com.au if you believe an account or sign-in link has been misused.

You must submit information that is accurate, lawful and not misleading, and only content and images that you own or have permission to use. You must not submit material that infringes another person's rights, contains malicious code, unlawfully discriminates, or promotes illegal activity.

You keep ownership of your material. You give Mafia Publishing a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, resize, format and publish it for the purpose of operating, promoting and archiving the masthead and your listing. This licence ends when the material is no longer reasonably needed for those purposes, subject to legal records, backups and independent archives.

Features and upgrades

New submissions are free and subject to review. Approved features remain published until archived, removed under these terms or past a selected final date. Dated notices are removed after that day in the masthead’s local time.

An optional paid upgrade includes thirty days of priority and website links from the time payment is captured. Its placement depends on the selected priority and other content on the masthead. The feature returns to its free version when the upgrade ends. Search rankings and traffic are not guaranteed. An upgrade does not renew automatically and creates no later charge.

Placements purchased before 6 September 2026 retain their original terms: after thirty days at full strength they gradually give way to newer placements while remaining published. Previously issued complimentary thirty-day offers retain the end date and terms shown with that offer.

Listicle entries are a separate product. Each paid entry has a title, text and image within a larger list, and lasts 180 days from captured payment. The highest active paid bid appears first; equal bids use the earliest payment. Positions can change. Editorial and complimentary additions follow paid entries. Payment buys inclusion, not a fixed numerical position or an independent endorsement. Renewal or an increased bid starts a new 180-day period; it does not renew automatically.

The publisher may separately grant a selected friend or a business it owns a complimentary priority placement. This is discretionary rather than a generally available offer. It is labelled on its own page, its ranking strength does not decay, and it has no charge or expiry unless the publisher later revokes it.

Payment and review

The checkout page shows the amount and currency before you pay. For a listing that has not yet been approved, Stripe first authorises the amount on your card. We capture it only after approval. If we reject the listing, we cancel the authorisation; your bank controls how quickly the pending hold disappears.

A new placement for unchanged, previously approved content may be charged when checkout completes because that content has already been reviewed. Payment starts the new placement period.

Approval of a complimentary placement does not create an invoice or a payment. If you later choose a paid placement, the checkout amount and the paid thirty-day period are separate from the free month. The paid placement restores normal bid-based ranking and advertiser links.

Submitting or approving an eligible community event creates no payment, card authorisation or invoice. Dated features are removed after their final local event date.

Commercial email

Frankie may send a relevant offer where Mafia Publishing has recorded permission or another lawful contact basis. Each commercial email explains why it was sent and how to unsubscribe. You can also reply with “unsubscribe” or email frankie@highlandspost.com.au. Unsubscribing stops commercial email to that address but does not prevent necessary account, security, payment or listing-service messages.

Moderation and removal

We may reject a listing before publication, ask for changes, or remove material that is unlawful, misleading, infringing, unsafe, technically harmful or materially different from what was approved. Approved content cannot be edited in place because an unreviewed change must not replace reviewed material. Contact us if a published listing needs a correction.

We may reject or remove a purported community event if its eligibility cannot be reasonably established, its event date is missing or inaccurate, it is materially commercial, or it otherwise fails these terms.

Refunds and consumer rights

A placement is not refundable merely because you change your mind, archive the listing early or receive fewer visits than expected. We do not promise a particular number of views, clicks or enquiries.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If we fail to provide a paid service as required, contact frankie@highlandspost.com.au so we can provide the remedy the law requires.

Availability and responsibility

We take reasonable care in operating the masthead, but maintenance, service-provider failures and events outside our reasonable control may interrupt access. We are responsible for loss to the extent required by law. We are not responsible for an independent advertiser's acts, claims or services, or for content on third-party websites.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains how personal information is handled.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Laws that apply to you and cannot be excluded continue to apply. We will update the date above when these terms change and notify affected account holders of material changes where reasonably practicable.
